Sounds of the Mountains Music and Story Festival

Welcome to the Sounds of the Mountains web site! We are celebrating our 7th annual festival and invite you to join us April 18 and 19, 2008.

...we combine the magic of storytelling and music with the peace and beauty of Camp Bethel for the Sounds of the Mountains Festival...

We are delighted to welcome back to the SOTM stage David Holt, Baba Jamal Koram and Barbara McBride-Smith.  Appearing for the first time at the festival are Bil Lepp and The Grass Cats.

Our festival is held at Camp Bethel, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia. The Jefferson National Forest adjoins our 470 acres of forests, streams, open meadows, and hiking trails. Conveniently located 5 miles off I-81 at exit 156, 10 miles north of Roanoke, we offer a beautiful spring setting for a storytelling festival.

Through the vision and the work of many volunteers, we combine the magic of storytelling and music with the peace and beauty of Camp Bethel for the Sounds of the Mountains Festival.

Some of our past performers include Joseph Helfrich, Donald Davis, John McCutcheon, Baba Jamal Koram, David Holt, Odds Bodkins, Willy Claflin, Sparky and Rhonda Rucker, Connie Reagan-Blake, Sheila Kay Adams, Andy Offitt Irwin, Syd Lieberman and Barbara McBride-Smith.

All performances are held indoors. The main stage will be inside our Deer Field Center, which includes indoor restrooms, a food court, and merchandise area. The event will take place rain or shine.

Tent and dry camping is available anywhere on Camp property. There are several full and partial RV hook-ups, but they go fast. Call 540-992-2940 to reserve your spot.  Hotels are also available within a 10-15 minute drive.

Food, snacks, drinks, and homemade desserts will be served throughout the weekend. On Saturday, several vendors will provide Lunch and Dinner during the meal breaks (sorry, no breakfast).

We look forward to seeing you April 18 and 19, enjoying all the great stories and music together…the Sounds of the Mountains.
